There's no real reason for Rockstar to rush the next entry in the series and it seems likely that the only game that will ever be able to truly compete with it is Grand Theft Auto VI. Grand Theft Auto V is still the second best-selling game of all time, just behind Minecraft and ahead of Tetris. Needless to say, the game is a juggernaut and it isn't surprising Rockstar wants to try and continue the momentum, especially if it's still selling tens of millions of copies every year. With 11 games in the entire series, Grand Theft Auto V makes up roughly 42% of the entire franchise's sales. On top of that, the series as a whole has sold over 350 million copies.

Rockstar has already confirmed the new version of GTA V will get exclusive updates, but it remains to be seen what kind of scale they'll have. It's likely the game will only continue to grow over the next several years as Rockstar chips away at the release of the rumored Grand Theft Auto VI which could be as far away as 2024 or 2025. Grand Theft Auto V's re-release for Xbox Series X and PS5 is set for this November alongside a standalone release of the ever-popular GTA Online. This is yet another massive feat for the nearly eight-year-old game, which is approaching another re-release that will surely catapult the game even further. Rockstar Games parent company, Take-Two Interactive, disclosed an earnings call that Grand Theft Auto V has sold a whopping 150 million copies to date. Open world juggernaut Grand Theft Auto Vhas once again sold an absurd amount of copies.
